To Call out Calling out

To Call out Calling out
A Importância do Contexto

Uma curta nota sobre assédio sexual na revista Time de Dec26/16-Jan2/17, sob “LAW – Where Catcalling is criminalized” de Tara John, informa que em Buenos Aires, soltar “catcalls” é agora passível de punição legal.  Termina afirmando que a capital portenha tornou-se “... just the latest locale to call out calling out”.

Some current real life examples extracted from the internet with “TO CALL OUT” meaning “TO PUT SOMEONE ON THE SPOT”:
-          “I hate the press. Always calling me out for my lies” (a politician, somewhere in the world).
-          “Others called out the new POTUS’ poor command of the English language...”. (POTUS = President of the United States).
-          Calling out someone on their bad behavior can be a big deal – especially for the target. First, figure out exactly what is bothering you.  Only then can you point out where the problem lies.  Sort things out first.” (*)

*Esse ultimo exemplo foi montado com trechos da página  “How to productively call people out on their bullshit (without being an asshole)” de Adam Dachis.
 Além de call out e put on the spot nos contextos acima, os interessados em expandir seu vocabulário podem também adicionar:
- Figure out125 = entender, chegar à conclusão;
- Point out273 = indicar, fazer notar;

*Lit Out *
Em propaganda de objetos domésticos, numa almofada estava escrito:  Lit Out.
To light, lit, lit + OUT = gíria, uso informal, antigo.
-  Light out of someplace for someplace = Cut out for = “se mandar”, “sair chispando”
 - LIT OUT = fui, me mandei, sumi, dei no pé, etc.
“...so, when I couldn’t stand it no longer I lit out.” (Mark Twain, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”).

Termina aqui a série de posts focados em OUT. A próxima partícula pode ser TO,  OFF ou IN, para antes das férias de julho.
